The Rudd Government today released two evaluation reports of Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and two Indigenous-specific family violence programs, the Family Violence Partnership Program and the Family Violence Regional Activities Program.
The Minister for Finance and Deregulation, the Hon Lindsay Tanner MP, announced the publication of the two reports which were completed by the Office of Evaluation and Audit (Indigenous Programs) in the Department of Finance and Deregulation.
The Australian Government is committed to closing the gap on Indigenous disadvantage on employment and access to business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Enhanced economic development is both a critical pathway to closing the gap. The IBA program evaluation examines the manner in which IBA seeks to create wealth in Indigenous communities, support Indigenous businesses and increase the rate of home ownership among Indigenous households.
The evaluation highlights the diversity of IBA’s partnerships with Indigenous people, their communities and the mainstream business community. The evaluation found that IBA’s programs have made significant improvements to home ownership rates for Indigenous people and that its portfolio of major investments enjoyed strong growth.
The evaluation report highlights the positive work that the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs has undertaken to address the complicated and sensitive issues related to family violence and notes that many improvements have been made since the completion of the evaluation.
The reports are available on the Department of Finance and Deregulation’s website at:
