Tenant for ANZAC Park West

The Department of Finance and Deregulation and the Department of Defence have reached agreement for Defence to lease the ANZAC Park West building at Constitution Avenue in Canberra.

Lindsay Tanner said: “After almost ten years of sitting idle, the government is finally putting ANZAC Park West to good use”.

Under the agreement Finance and Defence will work closely together to enable Defence to occupy the building as soon as possible. Finance will manage the fit-out of the building on behalf of Defence.

The ANZAC Park West office building is approximately 15,000 square metres of net lettable area and was refurbished in 2006 to achieve a 4.5 NABERS energy rating. The building is a heritage listed Commonwealth office building located at the intersection of ANZAC Parade and Constitution Avenue, on the northern side of Canberra’s Parliamentary Triangle.

The building forms part of the vista between Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial that is registered on the Commonwealth Heritage List under the Commonwealth’s Environment and Heritage legislation.

The building was initially refurbished for use by the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The AFP advised Finance in July 2007 that ANZAC Park West no longer met its headquarters accommodation requirements due to significant growth of its organisation in recent years.

Lindsay Tanner said: “Since coming to government, my Department has been actively working to secure a suitable tenant, to make use of this unused government resource.”

“This is a good outcome that will assist Defence in consolidating its future accommodation requirements in the ACT.”
