The Rudd Government today announced a package reforms to improve the administration of government grant programs and Budget transparency.

Lindsay Tanner, Minister for Finance and Deregulation today released the following:

• The Review of Operation Sunlight: Overhauling Budgetary Transparency undertaken by the former Senator Andrew Murray.
• The Government’s detailed response to Andrew Murray’s recommendations.
• The Government’s reforms to introduce a comprehensive, regulatory and reporting framework for the administration of grants.

Lindsay Tanner said: “These reforms are a long-term investment in greater accountability for this and future governments. Parliament and Australian taxpayers have a right to know how their taxes are being spent.”

Attached are two press releases outlining the details of the reforms to the grant programs and Budget transparency together with additional supporting documentation relating to Operation Sunlight.
