New Managing Director and CEO for ASC

The Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner, today announced the appointment of Mr Stephen Ludlam to the board of Australia’s submarine and shipbuilding company, ASC Pty Ltd.

Lindsay Tanner said Mr Ludlam had been appointed to the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and was ideally suited to lead ASC in continuing to provide a high level of service to the Defence Materiel Organisation and the Royal Australian Navy.

“Mr Ludlam has extensive experience in the construction and maintenance of both submarines and surface ships. This experience will hold Mr Ludlam in good stead to lead ASC into a new period,” Lindsay Tanner said.

In the past 25 years Mr Ludlam has held a number of senior management and engineering positions with Rolls Royce in the United Kingdom.

“With his experience, Mr Ludlam will be able to assist the ASC position itself for a significant role in the designing and building of the twelve future submarines announced by the Government in the Defence White Paper,” Mr Tanner said.

Lindsay Tanner thanked outgoing Acting Managing Director, Mr Graeme Bulmer, for his service in the role since May this year.

“Mr Bulmer has made a significant contribution as a director of ASC over the last nine years and as the Acting Managing Director over the last six months. The achievements of the company in that time are testament to that,” Lindsay Tanner said.

Mr Ludlam is expected to take up his position in January 2010 and has been appointed for a five year term.
