The Rudd Government has launched a set of principles that will help forge stronger relationships between the Federal Government and the Information and Communication Technology industry.
The Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner said The Government and Industry Principles of Engagement on ICT were an important step in the Government’s agenda to improve engagement with the ICT industry.
“The Australian Government relies on the ICT industry to provide the high quality products and services we need to deliver services to Australians,” Lindsay Tanner said.
“As the Government increasingly looks towards ICT solutions to meet emerging challenges, engagement with the ICT industry becomes vital.”
“The Principles of accessibility, governance, problem resolution, collaboration and application represent five key areas for us to strengthen the way in which Government and the ICT industry work together.”
In his review of the Australian Government’s Use of Information and Communication Technology, Sir Peter Gershon recommended the development of client and supplier codes of conduct.
Lindsay Tanner said the Government had worked with the Australian Information Industry Association and the Australian Industry Group to develop these Principles and address the recommendation.
“Since releasing the report on the Australian Government’s Use of Information and Communication Technology in October 2008, the Government has been steadily implementing Sir Peter Gershon’s recommendations,” Lindsay Tanner said.
“These Principles are another example of the Rudd Government’s ICT reform agenda.”
