NEWSREADER: The Federal Government is resisting calls to help small businesses, as well as large commercial property companies to access credit. Melissa Clark reports from Parliament House.

REPORTER: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Greg Evans says it's getting harder and harder for small and medium-sized businesses to borrow money.

GREG EVANS: This is an emerging problem, especially for small business. There are much tighter credit conditions.

REPORTER: He wants the Government to consider some policies to help get credit flowing. The Government is looking at helping large commercial property companies facing the credit crunch, but the Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner says there are no plans to include small businesses.

LINDSAY TANNER: The issue that's under contemplation is a very specific one, and that relates to commercial property.

REPORTER: The Government hasn't yet committed to intervening in the credit markets.
